English Elegance

This English, cottage-style bungalow located in Birkenhead was re-designed by Macfie Architecture. It included a large extension at the rear of the home, which has created a beautiful light-filled, open-plan living/dining and kitchen area.

Elsewhere in the house, the overall design was reworked to include four bedrooms and three bathrooms, along with a mud/laundry room and a second working kitchen.

Chroma Interiors worked with the clients and the architect on all interior design planning and execution, including the kitchens, bathrooms and selection of finishes. The interior is a soft wash of meringue whites and delicate greys with accents of warm metal finishes and textures. The overall ambience is one of understated glam, building a cohesive relationship between old and new.

The entire project was a cooperative effort between Macfie Architecture, Rusa Construction, Chroma Interiors and the clients themselves. The end result is a design that celebrates the heritage architecture of New Zealand with a contemporary revival.
