Space Planning

Space planning is an iterative process. I begin with detailed discussions to understand how clients use the space in their home.  For a remodel, I evaluate how the current space is working and create a plan to improve it. This typically involves several design permutations with the plan evolving until it is perfect for the client and ready to be built.

02
AutoCAD Drawings
I prepare detailed drawings in AutoCAD, which is the most common drafting software that architects and designers use. I have worked in this program for 20 years, and am extremely proficient with it. This allows clients to visualise multiple design options. It also provides a template to builders after the design is finalised.  For each space that is designed, plans, elevations, sections and details are drawn to ensure that the design is built correctly.

03
Finish Specifications
Selecting colours and finishes can be an overwhelming process. I narrow down wide selections to present targeted palette choices to each client. Having worked all over the world with clients who have a wide variety of tastes and styles, I am not influenced by a particular look. Each finished space reflects the client’s individual taste in its best form.

04
Furnishings
Often in conjunction with space planning, I select furnishings that fits the needs of the client. Furniture and fabrics are chosen, as well as rugs, accessories and window treatments. This often involves taking clients to visit trade showrooms to see the pieces in person. If needed, custom furniture will be designed to fit the spatial needs of the room.

Project Management
Excellent communication is crucial to a successful design outcome. I work closely with builders to ensure that each project runs smoothly. I provide detailed drawings and schedules so that builders have the information required to properly execute the client’s vision.
