Tropical Canopy

This kitchen was designed for an empty-nest couple that has spent time in Fiji and likes warm tones, earthy materials and the outdoors.

Reconfiguring the room with lots of angles into a well-flowing kitchen was a challenge. Removing the wall to the lounge immediately created more visual space. Extending a bulkhead above the cooktop created continuity within the room. Adding tongue-and-groove and an island fan added interest. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets made from solid mahogany created ample storage for the clients many sets of dishes.

Mahogany timber was also used for the cupboards, with a vertical detail added to the peninsula bar. The benchtops and waterfall edge are made from honed, leathered black granite. The green tile splashback adds a vibrancy of colour and brings the outdoors in. Natural copper cabinets add warmth and compliment the tones used in the design.

"Working with Margaux on our kitchen design was a joy. She came up with big, bold ideas, which we never would have thought of, which transformed the space. She also really listened to our own ideas and brought them to life in a wonderfully creative way. It was fun working through the design process with Margaux throughout the project, as new issues came up and compromises needed to be made.

Margaux designed a bold yet highly functional kitchen that really reflected us, rather than simply following fashionable trends. She also brought with her the best group of tradies, who really engaged with the project. Her attention to detail kept everyone honest. She had great ideas for materials and accessories.

We remain so delighted with our kitchen that hardly a day goes by where we don't remark to each other on how much we are enjoying it. We cannot recommend Margaux highly enough for any interior design work."
